Free CPR Courses at the Carindale Library
Over the last few months I have received many requests for Council to put on free CPR and First Aid courses for the community.
I’m pleased to announce that through my ward office, we will be funding a series of free CPR courses later this year.
The first of these is taking place on Wednesday 2nd November from 1pm-4pm in the large meeting rooms at the Carindale Library.
Mobile Ward Office - Saturday 8th October
This Saturday the 8th of October I will be hosting mobile offices around the ward.
If you haven’t met me already, I’d love to chat and hear your feedback on what you think Council can do better in the ward.
I’ll be bringing along some free toy wheelie bins and paper cut-outs of Council vehicles to give away as well, so rest assured your kids can be entertained if you want to have a little yarn!
Footpath repairs across Chandler
This month Council has been repairing a large number of footpaths across the Chandler Ward, with numerous repairs taking place in Wakerley, Mansfield, Carindale and Mt Gravatt East.
I thought I may take the time to share some statistics and information on how Council maintains its footpaths.
This financial year, Council has put a record $30 million towards the reconstruction and maintenance of our existing network in order to bring our footpath network back up after the damage done during the February 2022 floods.
Free green waste weekends in September
Great news for residents as the Council announces free green waste disposal at all resource recovery centres over September.
This is a great opportunity for residents especially in Chandler, Gumdale, Burbank, Ransome and Wakerley to clean up in preparation for the storm season.
Construction of new shade sails at Bill McFarlane Park
Over the last year, I have received multiple requests for the playground in Bill McFarlane Park (off Olsen Cres) to be shaded, and I’m happy to say that new shade sails will be installed soon.
This $157,000 investment will see more than 500m2 of area shaded with commercial grade UV blocking fabric, covering both playground nodes.
More shade means cooler play equipment and less exposure to the harsh Queensland sun, making the playground safer for kids to play, learn and grow.
Design work underway for upgrade of Molle, New Cleveland and Green Camp Rd intersection
One of the most exciting projects of the 2022-23 Council Budget is the preliminary design for the Molle, New Cleveland and Green Camp Rd intersection which received $447,000 in funding.
Green Camp Rd and New Cleveland Rd are crucial corridors in Brisbane’s eastern suburbs and this upgrade will look to drastically improve the safety of this dangerous intersection.
I receive plenty of requests, however this would have to be one of the most frequent, with many residents in the eastern suburbs writing to me over the course of my tenure in Council.
Surbiton Ct Park Gym Equipment Upgrade
Carindale residents will be able to keep even warmer this winter with the new Surbiton Ct Park fitness equipment upgrade as part of Council’s 2022-23 Budget.
The equipment will begin installation on Monday 18th July with expected completion in mid-August, weather permitting of course.
The great news is that this fitness equipment will also be shaded, providing extra sun protection when residents go on their next workout.
One step closer to our Carindale doggy daycare centre
In December 2021 a development application was submitted to Council to convert the abandoned Sizzler at the corner of Westfield Carindale into a doggy daycare and training facility.
This application has now been approved by Council and we are one step closer to having a local asset for our pet-loving community.
2022/23 Council Budget -Chandler Overview
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner has handed down Council’s $4 Billion Budget for 2022/23, unveiling a record $3.4 billion better suburbs program.
Council is also investing $505 million into rebuilding & recovery programs as well as $1.7 billion into better transport for Brisbane.
As usual, there’s plenty for the city at large, but locally our ward hasn’t missed out.
Newnham & Wecker Rd project update - June 2022
The construction of the Newnham Rd and Wecker Rd intersection upgrade are progressing well despite ongoing setbacks with Brisbane weather.
Work on the eastern side of Newnham Rd are almost complete.
Manly Rd Greener Suburbs Project Update
I’m pleased to say that the first section of Council’s Greener Suburbs project has been completed on the corner of Manly Rd & Greencamp Rd and boy is it looking good!
In 2021, Council announced two Greener Suburbs projects along Manly Rd, the first at Greencamp Rd and the second at Hargreaves Rd.
The latter project, which is due to take place this year, aims to improve the clean, green feel of our suburbs through tree planting and landscaping.
Bridgnorth St Park Upgrade Party
After 12 months of planning, consulting and constructing, the Bridgnorth Street Park upgraded is complete and was presented to the public in a celebration a couple weeks ago.
The Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner joined me in officially opening the park with more than 400 people from the community.
Park Upgrade Party to reopen Bridgnorth St Park
Join the Lord Mayor of Brisbane Adrian Schrinner and Iat the re-opening of Bridgnorth St Park with its new playground and facilities to the public.
The park upgrade party celebration will take place from 11am to 1pm at Bridgnorth St Park on Saturday the 7th of May.
This event will have free food, face painting and entertainment from locals, so make sure you put it down in your diary!

Cribb Rd Dog Park agility equipment upgrade
Dog owners get ready as the Newbury Place Park dog park on Cribb Rd, Carindale, is set to see an upgrade of the dog agility equipment!
Works have begun this week and are set to be complete by late March / early April 2022, weather permitting.
Bridgnorth St Park update
I am pleased to say that the long-awaited Bridgnorth St Park upgrade is currently underway with no delays.
Construction began in late January with the park starting to take shape over the last week as the shade sails, footpaths and landscaping are completed.
The native Australian animal-themed playground has also been installed and will be enjoyed by many children in our community very soon.
Kerbside collection resumes - updated dates March 2022
I’m pleased to announce that kerbside collection is resuming after being temporarily paused to assist in the cleanup of the floods.
The flood affected items cleanup collected nearly 50,000 tonnes of waste and was very successful in helping clean up Brisbane.
Under our new schedule, the suburbs skipped over the pause period are having their annual collection rescheduled to the Easter School Holidays.

The past week has been extremely tough for all of South East Queensland and Northern NSW.
With such an unexpected and devastating event, Council is doing its best to respond to the impacts the flood has had to our city.

Chelsea and Rickertt Rd intersection upgrade completed
I am so pleased to announce the completion of the Rickertt and Chelsea Rd intersection upgrade in Ransome!
After too many accidents over the years, Council heard the public’s call for a much-needed changes to the intersection that were officially completed with the Lord Mayor turning on the traffic signals earlier this month.
Manly Rd Greener Suburbs Project
In late 2021, Council announced two Greener Suburbs projects along Manly Rd at its intersections with Greencamp Rd and Hargreaves Rd.
These programs aim to impove the clean, green feel of locations across Brisbane through increased tree planting and landscaping.
It certainly adds to the character of neighboring Wakerley and the eastside as the program continues to move into more suburbs.
