Disc golf takes off in Carindale
Carindale’s new family sport has taken off to a flying start with 150 local residents coming out for Cadogan Street Disc Golf Park’s opening weekend in July.
So far the community’s response has been great, and Council will be adding to the park with additional bubblers and bins to complement the course.
Help us name Wakerley Sports Park in honour of this local legend.
I have launched a petition calling on Brisbane City Council to rename the new Wakerley Sports Park, ‘Bill McFarlane Park’.

Official naming of Irene Longman Reserve
As part of International Women's Day last year, I launched a petition calling on Brisbane City Council to rename Barrack Road Park in Cannon Hill to Irene Longman Reserve; in recognition of Queensland's first female parliamentarian.
I'm pleased to advise that exactly one year later, on International Women's Day 2019, the park was officially renamed in her honour.
Carmichael Park - Community Facility Update
Brisbane City Council remains committed to getting the sports facility at Carmichael Park back on it's feet.
Following on from the disastrous collapse of Moreton Bay Sports Club in February 2018, Council has continued to invest in the facility's future.
New footpaths connections for Hemmant and Wakerley
Council has just completed major footpath projects in both Hemmant and Wakerley in response to requests from local residents for improved pedestrian infrastructure. But there’s always more to be done.

Colmslie Beach Reserve Public Pontoon Project update
Earlier this year, Brisbane City Council released the concept design and introduced the Colmslie Beach Reserve public pontoon through a community newsletter to the suburbs of Morningside and Murarrie in February 2018. Following further investigations and design works, Council identified significant constraints to the Colmslie Beach Reserve site.

In 2016, I announced a commitment to upgrade the existing Murarrie Skate Park. Works are anticipated to start in February 2018, weather and site conditions permitting. The project will deliver a range of new skate features as well as a new surface finish.
Wakerley Updates: Basketball court and Dog-off leash area
As many know, I was recently approached by a Year 10 student, Sam Atkins. Sam identified that the Mossvale Estate at Wakerley was in need of park facilities to cater for both teenagers and adults, and suggested a basketball court.
He set up an e-petition calling on Council to install a basketball court within the estate.
The petition received 226 signatures and called for Council to work with the residents of the Mossvale on Manly Estate to install a basketball court within the estate.
Three park upgrades nearing completion
I'm excited to advise three new park upgrades are near completion around the ward! These include:
Coochin Pl Park, Tingalpa
Hunter St Park, Manly West
Billan St Park, Carina
New playground equipment for Carina’s Billan Street Park
As your Councillor, I have been working hard to ensure Carina receives a better level of investment in our parks and public spaces.
Prior to the 2016 Council election, I committed to a major upgrade of Billan Street Park within four years.
Facelift for Hunter Street Park, Manly West
As promised, the major upgrade of Hunter Street Park has commenced!
The old playground will be removed and a new modern play system will be installed.
Council will also be installing a new seat and making some minor changes to the landscaping. This will include the planting of two new trees and erection of a sandstone wall. I have included a copy of the design plans in this letter for your reference.
Wakerley’s wait for dog park almost over
Prior to the last Council election, I received a Change.org petition signed by over 200 Wakerley residents requesting Council provide a dog off-leash area for the Mossvale Estate.
Council has assessed six local parks within Mossvale Estate as to their suitability for an off-leash area. These include Torrens Crescent Park, Mossvale Drive Park, Barwin Street Park, Yarra Road Park, Watervale Parade Park and Moss Road Park.
Due to a variety of environmental and constructability factors, Watervale Parade Park was the only suitable location identified.
