Big upgrades coming to Bridgnorth Street Park

The draft concept plan for Bridgnorth Street Park

The draft concept plan for Bridgnorth Street Park

As part of my election commitments made earlier this year, I pledged to deliver a much needed upgrade to Bridgnorth Street Park.

Design work has been busily progressing in the background over the past few months, and I’ve now allocated funding from the Chandler Ward Suburban Enhancement Fund (SEF) to get construction started.

The upgrade is set to occur over two stages with the first stage commencing in 2021.

The first stage of the upgrade includes:

  • A new playground (a consolidation of the two playgrounds)

  • A new garden bed (on the site of the old playground)

  • Nine new shade sails

  • A new pathway linking with the existing path

  • New sandstone seating

  • Waste and recycling bins

  • A new accessible fountain

The second stage of the upgrade includes an out-door gym as well as tree planting and landscaping that will take place alongside the installation of a new park sign.

I have had several requests from residents to include more playground equipment for older children and in working with Council, I have discussed the possibility of including a flying fox and basketball half-court in Stage 2 of Bridgnorth Street Park’s upgrade.

Out of 54 residents who responded to the survey, 79% supported the installation of a basketball half-court and 72% supported the installation of a flying fox. The outdoor gym set also received good level of support, with 67% of residents supporting an outdoor gym.

Residents also made several requests for other facilities in the park including playground equipment for younger children, a tennis wall, rubber soft fall instead of bark for the playground as well as barbeque facilities.

It should be noted that the draft concept is not a final indication of what will be delivered as part of this project and I’d like to thank each and every resident who took the time to fill in the survey as the final design will rely heavily on residents’ feedback.
