Tilley Road to reopen in time for Christmas

Council's $28M Green Camp Road Corridor Upgrade has reached a new milestone in November, with the concrete culverts used to drain water underneath Tilley Road, now in place. The project is on track for completion in Q1 2019.

Brisbane City Council’s $28 million Green Camp Road corridor upgrade reached a new milestone in November, with the concrete culverts used to drain water underneath Tilley Road, now in place.

Residents are set to receive an early Christmas present, with Tilley Road re-opening next week as construction moves ahead along Green Camp Road.

The full closure of Tilley Road has helped speed up construction, with the new traffic signals being prepared to be switch on from Wednesday 19 December.

Council is committed to getting residents home quicker and safer, as part of a $2 billion investment to deliver 1000 road projects across the city.

Once complete, the Green Camp Road upgrade will boost safety and capacity with the corridor widened to four lanes, in addition to major upgrades at the Green Camp, Tilley and the Green Camp and Rickertt Road intersections.

While works will continue until mid-next year, residents will experience immediate benefits from next week with the reopening of a 200-metre stretch of Tilley Road that was closed in September to allow for the installation of traffic signals and road widening works.

Green Camp Road is one of the city’s primary connections to the bayside, with approximately 30,000 vehicles travelling along it every day.

Green Camp Road is already exceeding capacity during peak periods, however, this project will future-proof the corridor, tackling traffic congestion to get residents home in half the amount of time it currently takes.

Until now, the Tilley Road intersection has experienced city-bound queues of more than one kilometre, however, its capacity will be boosted from next week with the addition of left-turn and right-turn lanes.

The project is on track for completion in 2019.
