Meals on Wheels site to be named McFarlane Reserve
Local identity Bill McFarlane will be honoured by Brisbane City Council, with a park at 880 Manly Road, Wakerley set to be named after him.
Mr McFarlane, now ninety-two (92) is the past president of the now defunct Wynnum and Districts Marching Girls Association.
Before the group wound up in 2007, Mr McFarlane gifted the association's site at 338 Wondall Road, Manly West to the Wynnum and Manly Districts Meals on Wheels Association.
This gift of land was then sold to hardware chain, Bunnings- which provided the funds to build a new Meals on Wheels Kitchen and Community Centre at 880 Manly Road, Wakerley.
As president of the Marching Girls Association in 2006, Bill argued strongly in favour of the land transfer which is today making the construction of the new kitchen a reality.
Without his generous support, Wakerley's newest community facility would never have been built.
It is proper and fitting that Council name the park in his honour.
A naming submission is being prepared for Council's Environment, Park and Sustainability Committee to consider after it's Summer Recess.
