Carindale Recreation Reserve: Survey Results

Map showing the area of Carindale Recreation Reserve being reviewed

The results are in…

I want to thank the local Carindale residents who took part in the Carindale Recreation Reserve Masterplan survey over the last few weeks.

Surveys were sent to the houses closest to the parkland and 220 responses were received - thank you for your participation in this community consultation.

I have noted the issues that were raised in relation to this proposal.

The suggestions and results from the survey have now been sent to Council officers for them to review. I will meet with these officers shortly to discuss what options would be feasible at the location.

I will keep you updated with the progress of the Masterplan.

For now, please find the results of the survey detailed below.

Q1 - Which of these features would you like to see in a new and upgraded playground for Carindale Recreation Reserve?

Total respondents: 220

Respondents indicated that they would most like to see the inclusion of waterplay features in a new and upgraded playground, followed closely by the flying fox.

Nature play and climbing / obstacle features were similarly popular, while interactive (sound and music) features were shown the least amount of interest.

Q2 - What new recreational facilities are of interest to you?

Total respondents: 220

New / upgraded picnic shelters were indicated by a significant margin to be respondents’ most desired new recreational facility.

The second most popular option, new / upgraded BBQs, were chosen at a lesser rate than the picnic shelters, but were still significantly more popular than any other option.

Q3 - If included in the final design, our concrete courts are able to be marked with multiple lines for different sports. Would you like to see line markings for any of the following sports?

Total respondents: 175

In Question 1, 119 respondents showed interest in the inclusion of a concrete sports court in an upgraded Carindale Recreation Reserve.

When asked which sport they would like these markings to be for, 175 participants answered.

Basketball was indicated by a significant measure to be the most desired sport line marking, with pickleball the second most popular.

This reflects the recent growth of pickleball in Australia, which is why we recently installed new pickleball courts in Sheriff Park, Wakerley.

Tennis was a close third, with netball certainly the least popular option.

Q4 - What age are the people in your household who use/would be using Carindale Recreation Reserve?

Total respondents: 220

Survey results indicate that a large range of ages will be using the upgraded Carindale Recreation Reserve.

This shows the importance of including facilities that are appropriate and enjoyable for different age groups, so that the needs of all residents and park-goers are addressed.

With the survey results now with Council officers for review, I will keep you updated on the next steps of the process.

If you have any further questions about the Carindale Recreation Reserve Masterplan, the survey results, or anything else, please reach out.
