Belmont Rd, Wynnum Rd & Manly Rd Intersection Upgrade completed

PROJECT PLANS (WORK NOW COMPLETED)

Last year, I was excited to announce that Council’s 2017-18 budget allocated $2.5M to projects at both ends of Belmont Road.

Two of these projects included:

  • Belmont Road / Wynnum Road / Manly Road Intersection Design Work

  • Belmont Road / Manly Road Intersection Improvements

$385,000 was allocated to complete the concept design for the Belmont / Wynnum / Manly Road intersection upgrade.

$381,000 was allocated for improvements to the troubled intersection of Belmont Road and Manly Road, to address the right turn storage capacity and intersection performance.

WORKS NOW COMPLETE

I’m pleased to advise that Council has now delivered congestion busting projects on Belmont Road at this intersection to reduce traffic congestion and enhance road safety.

Prior to the upgrade, traffic congestion was often experienced northbound on Belmont Road approaching the intersection of Wynnum Road and Manly Road, especially during the peak periods.

Investigations showed that this intersection could be improved by extending the dedicated right turn lane by 12 metres, changing the middle lane to a shared through and right turn, as well as extending the left turn lane by 57 metres.

To improve journey times, the no parking at any time restrictions were extended on the western side of Belmont Road, and on the eastern side of Belmont Road from the Wynnum Road and Manly Road intersection.

The inbound and outbound bus stops 47/43 was also relocated 50 metres to the south of the existing locations.
