Tilley Road to close as corridor upgrade begins
As I mentioned last year, the Lord Mayor and I committed to improving the intersection of Green Camp and Tilley Roads (previous article).
Following three years of budget allocations from Council and a $10 million contribution from the Commonwealth government, this $27.7 million corridor project will begin shortly.
The Green Camp Road corridor upgrade will:
Improve safety for all road users
Reduce traffic congestion, and
Improve travel time reliability along the corridor
Upgrade Plans
Traffic volumes at the existing Rickertt Road and Tilley Road intersections, as well as the two lane section of Green Camp Road (between Rickertt Road and Manly Road), currently exceed capacity during peak periods, creating congestion and travel time delays.
Congestion along Green Camp Road and through both intersections is expected to increase without intervention.
The upgrade will improve safety by upgrading and signalising the Green Camp Road and Tilley Road intersection and by improving the layout and alignment of the Green Camp Road and Rickertt Road intersection.
The project will also reduce travel times along Green Camp Road for general traffic and buses by widening the existing road from two to four lanes.
The upgrade will also deliver new active transport infrastructure including on-road cycle and off-road shared footpaths.
Construction is expected to start in mid-2018 (after the Commonwealth Games) and be completed in mid-2019, weather and construction conditions permitting.
Temporary closure of Tilley Road
Later this year, Tilley Road will be closed (temporarily) to allow for this exciting new upgrade ot take shape.
A temporary full-time closure of the section of Tilley Road adjacent to the Green Camp Road intersection will be in place for approximately three months.
This closure will assist to complete the culvert installation works and Tilley Road widening within a compressed construction timeframe, reducing construction costs.
Detour signage will be provided and residents and road users will be advised in advance to plan alternative routes. Please see below map for the proposed detour route.
