Murarrie Rd & Wynnum Rd set to be signalised
Brisbane City Council is planning to upgrade the intersection of Wynnum Road and Murarrie Road at Tingalpa to improve traffic efficiency and safety, and cater for existing and future traffic demands at this intersection.
This project is part of Council’s $1.3 billion commitment to take real action on congestion, by focusing on a range of solutions to improve the existing road network, getting residents home more quickly and safely.
The project is expected to involve:
signalising the intersection of Murarrie Road and Wynnum Road
Murarrie Road widened to two lanes on the approach to the intersection with a left slip lane and a dedicated right hand turn lane
extended existing right turn pocket on Wynnum Road
signalised pedestrian crossings across Murarrie Road and across Wynnum Road on the western side
modified cycle lanes on Wynnum Road
upgraded kerb and channel, medians, intersection lighting and line marking.
Council has identified eight trees which need to be removed as part of this project. These trees will be removed in consultation with a Council arborist. Council is committed to minimising any impact on the environment and will undertake offset planting and landscaping as part of the project.
Some on street parking will need to be restricted on Murarrie Road between Wynnum Road and Verdun Street to safely allow the proposed changes to the lanes on Murarrie Road.
Council is progressing the detailed design for the project, and construction will be scheduled to commence in mid to late 2018.
Please be assured that Council is committed to keeping local residents informed of construction activity in their area and more information will be provided to the local community in early-mid 2018 closer to the start of construction.
In the meantime, further information about this project is available on Council’s website by searching for ‘Wynnum Road and Murarrie Road intersection upgrade.’ Council will also send a newsletter in the near future to the wider community to provide more information on the benefits of the project.
